Face to face with oppression

When Moldova convinced Ukraine to blockade Pridnestrovie in March, 2006, it was an attack to starve the will of the young nation's freedom loving people. They tried to force a a shutdown of the country's economy. But with pride and determination, the people took it upon themselves to rise to the moment: They left their homes and started walking, side by side, to the border with Ukraine.

Showing their solidarity by coming together to denounce the sectarian blockade, they came face to face with the heavily armed military of Ukraine. Peaceful demonstrations were about signs and civil disobedience. Face to face with automatic weapons, the people of Pridnestrovie would not be provoked and refused to be dragged into committing acts of violence. The people simply said NO to the blockade, sending a strong moral message to Ukraine, Moldova, and to those pulling their strings.
