Freedom: Europe's young democracy

The record is still not perfect. But a decade and a half after independence, Pridnestrovie has grown up and and learned what freedom is all about. Recently, the European Union even used the words independent, open and democratic to describe Pridnestrovie's achievements, recognizing the country's democratic reforms and open, market-oriented economy.

With 35 nationalities, 10 religions and a total of 3 official state languages, Pridnestrovie is truly a multiethnic republic. And everyone gets along: The country's diversity has resulted in a rich, multi-faceted culture based on tolerance and understanding. Come see for yourself. [ More ]

The country is unique. Pridnestrovie and Moldova are as different as night and day: In culture, historical background, governance, languages, the two countries have almost nothing in common. Both the UN and the OSCE recognize this, calling Pridnestrovie "different" and "distinct", and highlighting Pridnestrovie's "very different historical past". Even ethnic Moldavians living in Pridnestrovie today have no desire to join Moldova and prefer to live in freedom and independence.

Freedom is growing in Pridnestrovie. Today, the young country wants to find its proper place in the global community and learn from international partners. It is moving in the right direction — and with a positive attitude from the rest of the world, it can make a difference.
