Hydropower is energy made from water: One of the cleanest, greenest ways to meet the world's growing energy needs. Pridnestrovie has on its territory one of Europe's largest electricity transforming grids. It is an important link for supplying electricity to all of the Balkans. The country's Hydro Electric Plant, located in Dubossary, sells electric energy not only in Pridnestrovie but also in other countries in the region. It is one of several dozen success stories in privatization with a human face.

250 miles of river

The Dniester River, historically the border between Moldova and Pridnestrovie, stretches for 250 miles between the two countries. Independent since 1990, Pridnestrovie restored the traditional border which was breached in 1940 as the result of a secret pact between Soviet dictator Stalin and Hitler's Nazi Germany.

In defense of nature, in this 2005 press photo, environmental activists joined forces with a political youth group in Pridnestrovie to take a stand for the environment. Local "Earth First!" activists wore anti-pollution masks to make a statement.

Voshod in winter

Voshod, a German-Russian village located in Northern Pridnestrovie, is a romantic destination in winter. The multiethnic country is home to countless European minorities who all get along in an atmosphere of peaceful collaboration. Even ethnic Moldovans who live in Pridnestrovie retain a distinct "Pridnestrovian" identity and have no wish to see the country join with Moldova.

Northern PMR waterfall

In a pristine corner of Europe, this waterfall shows that there are still untouched spots of nature left when governments and residents are willing to protect nature. The waterfall is located in Sakharne which is part of the territory of Pridnestrovie, one of the new independent nations near the Black Sea.
