Our current president

The president of Pridnestrovie, Igor Smirnov, was re-elected in free and democratic elections to head the independent republic for the term 2006-2011. In parliament, his 'Respublica'-party faces opposition from young reformers united in the 'Renewal'-bloc. But despite policy differences, these two parties (along with smaller parties and independent candidates) completely agree on the continued sovereign independence of the republic.
