In many post-Soviet republics it was all about "biziness" ... and education was forgotton as the upstart politicians were busy lining their pockets with the proceeds from shadowy privatizations. Not so in Pridnestrovie. Although we, too, opened our doors to a market based economy, we did it in a responsible way and never at the expense of education. For our country, education and higher learning was always more important. Because in the long term, an investment in the education of a country's citizens is what really pays off.

Today, Pridnestrovie contains a highly educated workforce. Degree holders in all specialties make up the backbone of an informed, specialized middle class. Our country's leading university has become a center of cultural and intellectual development of the region; it represents Pridnestrovie in the leading international higher institution and academy associations in the Commonwealth of Independent States and foreign countries in general.
Pridnestrovie's largest state university, the T.G. Shevchenko University in Tiraspol, comprises 14 faculties and 84 chairs.
Specialists in 54 different majors are trained there.
Depending on enrollment, in any given year between 10,000 and 15,000 students are taught at the university in three languages: Russian, Moldavian and Ukrainian.
The University employs over 1,000 teaching staff including 36 Doctors and 220 Masters of Science.
Through an internationally negotiated agreement on validity of the degrees, graduates from the T.G. Shevchenko University benefits from the University's double accreditation, in Pridnestrovie and Russia.

Pridnestrovie is clearly serious about investing state funds in higher education. But that doesn't mean that basic level schooling [0] is negleced.
