This photo of the Dniester river graces the frontpage of the website of Pridnestrovie's Environmental Protection Ministry (see links). Before independence, no environmental protection existed in the area. But a new ecological focus came to life with the country's new constitution and today the ministry is active in safeguarding our fragile environment.
