250 miles of river

The Dniester River, historically the border between Moldova and Pridnestrovie, stretches for 250 miles (400 km) between the two countries. Independent since 1990, Pridnestrovie restored the traditional border which was breached in 1940 as the result of a secret pact between Soviet dictator Stalin and Hitler's Nazi Germany.
