From wasteland to wetland

In the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, this bridge over the Dniester River is one of the several rail links leading to Russia and the Ukraine.

Originally an industrial wasteland, since independence and the introduction of environmental protection laws, Pridnestrovie has cleaned up the area and protected the bio diversity of the Dniester. Before, no government body existed to protect the environment. Today, Pridnestrovie's own Ministry of Environmental Protection is in charge of ensuring the sustainability of the wetlands.
